Update, 2023: Every 5 years or so I create an updated description of my methods and workflow: prefield prep, fieldwork, and postfield processing, journaling and video production. The occasion is usually a project with collaborators expressing interest in how to preserve the field experience, so the how-to write-ups typically originate as appendices in associated reports or journals. Most recently I did this during the fall 2022 Connor-Carstensen landforms course, preparing mostly Environmental Science majors for careers in field research. The previous edition was in 2017, helping Last Stands trekkers Elsa Sebastian and Natalie Dawson with their surveys of the southern archipelago timberlands. And the edition before that was 2012, reporting on a visit to Angoon with Bob Christensen. Tools keep improving but goals don’t change: Pay attention. Share.
