Another in the series of student written and illustrated booklets, a Discovery collaboration with master Dzantik’i Héeni teachers Susan Joling and Paula Savikko. This time, Andy Romanoff took the lead for content and field leadership, and I was just back-up and ‘art-coach.’
To preserve the ‘historical flavor’ of this document, I’ve resisted the temptation to update place names or correct minor errors.I did, however, slip in a drone oblique of Hesco Barriers under the eagle drawing by then-student Claire Imamura. As we move closer to our third (?!) major outburst flooding on Wooch Eelʼóox̱ʼu héen, river that’s murky together (Mendenhall River), it’s oddly reassuring to read what today’s community leaders wrote about it as kids.
Long live the river, and our floodplain communities, and the enthusiasm of youth!
