Touring lands on Back Loop Road
Discovery Southeast and the Southeast Alaska Land Trust (SEALT) have similar missions. Discovery works with our human future, and SEALT with our homeland’s future. Neither’s mission is really complete without the other.

Second of 2 back-to-back outings on Saturday, July 17th. Entering through the Discovery parcel on River Road, we bushwhacked southwest to land owned by City & Borough of Juneau (CBJ) with a conservation easement held by Southeast Alaska Land Trust. Amanda Pilley photo.
This weekend, Discovery and SEALT offered interpretive walks through adjacent lands off River Road in central Áak’w Táak, inland from little lake (Mendenhall Valley). Interest was high, so we added an overflow outing. In total we guided about 50 avid bushwackers, of all ages and abilities, through this entrancing post-glacial landscape.
