What we can’t see from Visitor Center
I’m told by interpretive staff that visitors are often surprised to learn from their guides that the glacier is that white thing tucked into a cleft at lake’s head, 1.7 miles away. Pretty hard, then to explain how enormous the whole thing is.
Here’s an attempt at visualization. Even folks who pay for a helicopter flight typically land at the base of the third icefall, just above the word Áak’w on this video-poster. Let’s go farther, to a view beyond the spectacular Towers.
