Medium-resolution GeoPDF pair for field navigation in Spaulding Meadows. This boggy plateau is approached by 3 trails: Muir, Spaulding and the Lake Creek snowmobile route. In apps such as Avenza, on your phone or tablet, you can see your GPS/cell-triangulation position on this image, and lay a track. First choice is an IfSAR-derived bare-earth hillshade with streams from USFS and 50-foot contours. Other layers, exported from ArcMap, are named roads and hiking trails, and units from our 2014 wetlands survey. Thick blue lines are “subsheds,” also mapped during the CBJ Wetlands project.
Facilities labeled: MC: Muir Cabin. AB: Auke Bay Elementary. UH: University housing. EL: Egan Library.
The second choice is an orthophoto with overlain streams and trails. More information on geoPDFs and use of Avenza is at Media types>Maps&geoPDFs., and at Tools>Field navigation. As of late 2018 I haven’t confirmed the Spaulding Trail with GPS; published maps are coarse-resolution and in disagreement.
