Environmental analysis of lower Jordan Creek
From March through July, 1987, I assisted Dan Bishop and Bob Armstrong with an intensive study of streams, ponds and wetlands just north of Juneau’s airport runway. Almost all of those remarkable habitats are gone now—paved over or boxed in.
But those ‘ghost habitats’ had so much to teach me that ‘Impact Pond and Impact Wetland’—and camaraderie with Dan & Bob—remain foundational to my relationship with Lingít Aaní. Like the legacies of great people, let’s keep memories of great places alive.
Bishop, Armstrong & Carstensen (1987), the notorious airport expansion study, was long lost and lamented by Southeast wetland aficionados. For this first ‘reconstituted’ Environaid report, it took 4 days of ‘flatbedding,’ reformatting and blooper-sweeping. Here, our baseline study has finally been resurrected in digital form, complete with irreverent commentary by the junior author.
