Motion-detector camera at 1,200 feet
On December 12th, 2020, Steve Merli and I placed a game-cam in mountain goat winter habitat—tall trees over cliffy ravine, halfway to forest limit. Returning in April, we downloaded over 200 ten-second movies. Combined with our direct observations in more open areas, they begin to tell the story of this critical season in the life of our continent’s greatest mountaineer.
Many more posts on Jánwu, mountain goat, and our study of Goatlandia, are listed at bottom of the category page for this species.
PS, May, 2021: We’ve now added a sequel to this show, called Final month on goat winter range.
