Blood moon
At the beginning of my near-daily goatwatching stint in 2020, I bought a Nikon P1000 that zooms to 3,000 mm. Probably 98% of my use has been for filming Jánwu, usually at distances of a quarter mile or so.
But one of the selling points of this camera is that it nearly frame-fills the moon, and probably everyone who buys it gives that a try. This 40-second slideshow begins with a short videoclip, then covers a few hours of the shadow’s passing, through still frames and dissolve.
Another example of ‘bycatch’ from this ‘interplanetary zoom’ camera is all the birds I’ve opportunistically filmed while waiting for goats to show up. Stay tuned for a Bycatch birds post!
