April 4th, 2020. For the past week or more, birders and naturalists have been thrilled by the annual visit of these massive migrants—saved from the brink of extinction by the work of biologists such as our own Jim King. Cathy and I packed our telephoto camera and tripod into one of the rare patches of open water in an otherwise icy and snowed-over landscape. Here’s the results of a quick filming session.
