Wrapping up the 2021 Jánwu journal
January 1st, 2022: Most radio commentators appear quite ready to bid good riddance to 2021. While I share their distaste and even horror at what has transpired across the world, here below Shaa Tlaax ridge, I’ve been safely entertained and inspired all year. What a privilege, in a time of eco-cultural collapse and grief, to step outside my apartment and see stuff like this.

Last year around the solstice we had more rain than snow. Although it seemed like a tough winter toward the end, deer and goats only contended with unnavigable snowpack in March and April. This year, if we don’t get cleansing rains till spring, this baby Jánwu will have to call on all of mom’s experience and grit to make it through.
