In 2008, Bob Christensen and I were 3 years into the Ground-truthing Project. During those 3 years, the Forest Service was finalizing a revision to the Tongass Land Management Plan (TLMP), and simultaneously a coalition of conservation groups and timber interests (then known as the TCC) were writing a conservation strategy for the Tongass timberlands. Bob and I wrote this essay as a comment on TLMP and the TCC strategy.
